"You want... me to do the talkin'?" He braces his hands behind his head as he walks, putting his helmet back up for the stroll back to the Milano. Hopefully Rocket hasn't woken up and ditched them just yet. "I... yeah, 'course I can do that. Whatever you want."
He pauses, thinking of how best to warn her further. He knows she really isn't prepared for the full force of this crew.
"Just try to be patient with 'em, alright? They're like... kids. Well, Groot is a kid. The rest of 'em just act that way."
"You are their leader." Gamora points out. She'd been concerned before the extra warning puts her further on guard. She tries to remember she'll be dealing with children who aren't all that bright. She ought to show them compassion. She certainly hadn't been all too bright herself once upon a time. The reminder tugs at her stomach. It had been her fault that her mother was discovered. She really had been a careless back then.
She pushes that thought aside to nod. "I'll do what I can. I don't have much experience with children." She doesn't bother elaborating. No one needs a reminder of how many "children" of Thanos died.
Peter nods, grateful yet again his smile is concealed behind his breathing apparatus.
"That's okay, you'll get plenty of that rollin' with these guys." He steps in front of her as he uncloaks the ship and pulls down the ladder to the deck. "Let me scope things out, see who's up. I'll be right back for you - don't move."
He holds out a hand to urge her to stay, his heart constricting at the thought of letting her out of his sight for two seconds. For once, the coast seems to be clear. Without thinking, he extends his hand down to her with the intention to help her aboard.
She thinks she's impressed by the ship. Maybe that's because the junk she had stolen barely got her here, but all the same. It is strange to realize this might have been her home in another life.
It's also strange to be offered a hand up. She stiffens. Sadly Gamora still has some useless defense mechanisms against something as simple as being offered help ready to be engaged at any moment. "I can manage." She reminds him as brushes past his hand to get inside.
Peter nods and steps out of her way, more than accustomed to her stubbornness by now. If she's agreeing to be here at all, he really can't complain.
"Yeah, I know that." He tries not to sound too smug, resting his hands on the back of his head as he turns to lead her through. "You want the grand tour or should I just bring you to your room?"
She glances at him sharply. Gamora could swear he sounds a little bit smug about knowing her. She can't know for sure since it isn't mutual so she says nothing on it. Gamora instead folds her arms in front of her. "Grand tour. I need to know my new surroundings." Clearly he could never predict her being paranoid about new places.
Gamora follows after him, mysteriously silent as always despite the boots. She scans the cargo with a soft frown. She definitely has questions. "Is it just your stuff?" Gamora whispers back. It's a vague question so she's quick to skip to the point. "How does your team survive?"
"What...?" He doesn't understand the question, and the follow-up does little to clarify. "By workin' together. Lookin' out for each other. Like a family." It's the only way he knows how to answer, and despite his confused expression it comes out hopelessly earnest as a result.
It is so hopelessly earnest that Gamora is stunned speechless for a second. She finds herself a little jealous of Nebula too. It must be nice to be looked after. Their siblings were always trying to kill them. Nebula and Gamora barely treated each other much better.
She shakes it off as quick as she can. That hard exterior slides right back into place. "I meant units. How do we support this ship?" She does her best to sound cool and distant. Conceal, don't feel, baby!!
"Ohhhh right." That makes more sense and he flashes her a dumb smile as he leads her out of the cargo hold and back into the ship at large. "Well, we're guardians now so we try to stay on the up an' up. It doesn't always pay so good bein' good guys, but we make it work."

His eyes widen a little, but then he's waving her on to the cargo hold.
"This is where we keep all our... stuff," he whispers, leaning in a little. "Any questions?"
